Creating and Stabilizing Your “F2” Hybrids

Talking in technical terminologies, “F1” refers to a conventional hybrid. You can produce such a plant by hand-pollination, using a female and male of different varieties. You can even use plants of two different but close species. Then, allow the female to produce the seeds and keep crossing the seeds with that of any other plant. Through this controlled method, you will create very specific, hybrid plant with high yield trait. This is your F2 hybrid!

You will have to use varying levels of care. Each F1 hybrid will contain extreme genetic diversity.

Then, you can use F1 offspring seeds of one generation to mix them with another generation, creating the F2 generation. Unlike the F1 generation, the F2 generation will show a wider range of physical traits that offer better advantage; however, they will not be stable. This is why; F2 seeds do not produce true-to-type offspring seeds.
